The Archdiocese of Shillong announced the establishment of five new parishes following a meeting with Council members, Parish Priests of Mawlai and Nongthymmai, and lay leaders on Tuesday.

The five new parishes are Mawiong, Mawtawar, Umpling, Nongrah, and Madanrting.

In a letter addressed to all priests, religious, and faithful of the Archdiocese of Shillong, the Archbishop expressed the need for enhanced spiritual and pastoral care throughout the entire Archdiocese.

"We are indebted to all the priests, religious, lay leaders, and the faithful for their selfless service to the Church. In alignment with the need for pastoral care and the long-aspired desires of the faithful, we are opening new parishes in a phased manner," said the Archbishop of Shillong.
